New Biddle Doc Unearthed

An unnamed researcher recently turned up a hitherto unknown document pertaining to the so-called Biddle Tract in Swarthmore. The document may sow further confusion regarding the restrictions on development of commercial new cell properties in the heart of Swarthmore‘s commercial district.

The original 1892 document prohibited sale of spirituous liquors, among many other limitations. The new document, scrawled in blue ink, turned up in a routine title search, says simply “Just kidding! C.B. 4/1/93.”

Though it is presumed to have been signed by Clement Biddle himself, the authenticity and legal standing of this document have yet to be determined, and are complicated by questions such as whether ball point pens and legal pads existed in 1893.
