Hedgerow Plays Games

Opening next weekend (with previews beginning Wednesday) at Hedgerow Theatre is The Game of Love and Chance, an 18th century classic script by Pierre Carlet de Marivaux that has all the elements of comedy of manners: mistaken identities, misplaced suspicions, cheeky servants, and true love. In this translation and adaptation by Stephen Wadsworth, pandemonium rises to new levels.

A cast of new and familiar Hedgerovians undertakes this sprightly and trenchant comedy about an arranged marriage. Silvia (Stephenie Hodge) and Dorante (Kevin Aoussou) are skeptical of the match made for them and so take the guises of their servants, each unaware of the other’s skullduggery. In fact, the “servants” hit it off, but their mutual affection opens the door to new complexities and calamities.

Previews on June 5, 6, and 7, are $20 per ticket. Opening night is Saturday, June 8, at 8 p.m., with performances following on Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays, through June 23.

Hedgerow Theatre is at 64 Rose Valley Road in Rose Valley; info and tickets are at hedgerowtheatre.org and 610-565-4211.
