Helpers: COVID-19 Response Fund of the Foundation for Delaware County

Eight months, 77 grants, $673,000.

That’s how long the COVID-19 Response Fund of the Foundation for Delaware County has been operating, and how much money it has distributed so far.

Since it launched in March, the fund has helped provide food, shelter, childcare, diapers, personal protective equipment, COVID-19 tests, free legal advice, and much more to vulnerable community residents. The fund distributed its 18th round of grants, totaling $36,820, on November 9.

Food, children, and maternity needs were the focus of this cycle’s grants. Funding was provided to:

  • Family and Community Services of Delaware County, to deliver boxes of food to low-income households quarantining because of COVID-19.

  • The Media Food Bank, both to purchase food, and to obtain equipment to serve food outdoors in cold weather.

  • The Pettaway Pursuit Foundation, which supports pregnant and postpartum mothers, for infant formula and PPE.

  • The Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA, for enhanced cleaning of their childcare center.

In previous cycles, the foundation has given grants to dozens of community organizations, including those involved in mental health services, emergency financial counseling, services for disabled people, and aid to domestic abuse survivors.

“We are still receiving requests for funding to address immediate needs in the community,” said Frances Sheehan, the foundation’s president. “It is not too late to donate.”
