The Foundation for Wallingford-Swarthmore Schools recently donated an initial $5,000 to provide financial help to families in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District who, because of COVID-19, are facing a loss of income, health problems, or unplanned expenses. Mini-grants are available to help pay for a variety of family needs, particularly childcare, food, household items, and school supplies.
The Foundation for Delaware County recently made grants of $10,000 each to three local nonprofits: the Chester Community Improvement Project, Clarifi, and Media Fellowship House. The grants support emergency financial counseling for Delaware County families.
Five Chinese women, all local residents, raised over $6,000 from 60 families over just a few days in early April to buy masks and other personal protective equipment for local medical professionals and first responders.
Occasionally Yours remodeled its restaurant last fall, and revamped its menu. This spring, amid the coronavirus outbreak, it’s recasting its mission too. The restaurant is not only continuing to feed the local community (though now only through curbside take out and no-contact delivery), but it’s also taking on a new goal.
The COVID-19 Response Fund of the Foundation for Delaware County has made a first round of grants to local organizations. A total of $73,655 was distributed to 11 nonprofits to address emergency needs.
On July 30, the Rotary Club of Swarthmore made a grant of $1,000 to the Foundation for Delaware County, helping establish a fund known as “Growing with Families.” The fund will benefit participants in the Delaware County Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC), the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program and the Healthy Start project, now managed by the foundation.
