Important ballot questions on May 18 ballot
To the Editor,
The Pennsylvania primary election on May 18 is extremely important. Two proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot address the ability of the state legislature to override a governor’s declaration of an emergency.
In principle, the idea of a popularly elected, diverse legislature overriding an executive has appeal. However, this legislature is heavily gerrymandered and rarely does the right thing for the people. While I have found some of the actions of Governor Tom Wolf’s administration to be problematic (particularly when it comes to vaccine distribution), I trust it much, much more than I trust the Republican-dominated legislature.
I urge everyone to go to the polls May 18 and vote on these ballot initiatives. Let the will of the people — not of the few — decide what happens with these constitutional amendments.
Independents, you can vote on these ballot questions, too.
