To the Editor,
A Swift and Modest Proposal
for the New Poetry Editor
Swarthmorean poetry
will now be sunshine and roses
not mentioning skin cancer
nor speaking of rose fever
sunshine and roses ’twill be
We will avoid political verse
unless it can’t be scanned
by the average non-elite
a swift and modest proposal
we’ll be adverse to political verse
We will be uncrit of any local
store or non-prof
as we don’t know
who it is safe to be crit of.
Which store or non-prof
Once we learn whose opinions rate
what we should say, and how,
and how high, then any form
haiku or pantoum, or verse blanc
we will freely choose
