Thomas Hewett

Thomas Hewett of Wallingford died at the age 78 on October 26, 2019.

Tom was born in Logan, Utah, to Frank and Louise Hewett. He was raised in Salt Lake City, and graduated from Granite High School in 1959. He attended the University of Utah for two years before joining the U.S. Army in its Special Forces Unit. Tom returned to the University of Utah and graduated in 1967. He went to graduate school at the University of Illinois and received a Ph.D. in psychology in 1973.

Tom taught at Drexel University for 40 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Computer Science. He was the recipient of the ACM-SIGCHI Lifetime Service Award, multiple awards as a Stein Fellow, a former member of the Franklin Institute Committee on Science and the Arts, and taught classes and gave presentations at conferences in Europe and Australia.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Angela, whom he married in 1968; three children, Kathryn Giorgianni (Frank), Eric (Anna), and Dave; eight grandchildren; and his sister, Sara Osborne of Salt Lake City.
