Anne Fu Ip
Anne Fu Ip, beloved wife of the late Steve K. Ip, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24. She was 95.
Born in Guangdong, China, Mrs. Ip was the daughter of the late Fu Tak Lam and the late Fu Kang Ling Gee. A teacher in the Swarthmore public schools for many years, she delighted in teaching her students math that could be applied to life skills and encouraged them to reach their highest potential.
After retirement, she was an international travel liaison and consultant, visiting cities and countries around the world. Mrs. Ip lived in Hong Kong, Swarthmore, New York City, and Seattle, Washington. For the past seven years, she was a beloved member of the community of the Village at Waterman Lake, in Greenville, Rhode Island.
Mrs. Ip held a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from Ling Lam University and a master’s degree in education from West Chester University. She also attended Smith College and the University of Pennsylvania. She was active in the Ling Lam Alumni association and was a “sister” affiliated with the FF Fraternity.
Among the many interests and pursuits she loved were opera, swimming, water aerobics, golf, tai chi, racquet sports, gardening, scuba diving, Rummikub, Sudoku, dogs, fast cars, technology, ballroom dance, networking, the color red, film, fine food, fashion, and finance. She travelled extensively, embracing new cultures and lands.
She involved herself in her family’s life as often as she could and in any way that was humanly possible. Anyone she met became her friend. She valued education and was dedicated to life-long learning and self-improvement. She will be remembered as a person of intellect, grace, humor, and generosity, and as someone who was competitive in the most positive ways.
Mrs. Ip was the beloved matriarch of a large family: loving mother of Julianne Ip (Lawrence Shaw) of Greenville, Rhode Island, Christopher Ip (Loreto Jackson) of Providence, Rhode Island, and Stephanie Ip Hunter (Timothy) of Evans, Georgia; proud and adoring “Popo” to three grandsons, James Hunter (Austin Eckhoff) of Durham, North Carolina, Christopher Shaw of Greenville, Rhode Island, and Nicholas Hunter of Palo Alto, California. She was thrilled to have been a great-Popo to her first great-grandson, Skyler Eckhoff-Hunter.
Due to COVID, her funeral and burial were private. The family asks that her memory be celebrated by extending sincere kindness and warmth towards others, especially towards family and friends.
