Accidents

  • On March 21, at 1:55 p.m., Ptlm. John Stilwell and Chief Raymond Stufflet responded to the intersection of N. Chester Road and Swarthmore Avenue, for a reported motor vehicle crash. It was determined that a vehicle was stopped in the lane of traffic on N. Chester Rd., and the car traveling behind it failed to stop in time, striking it in the rear bumper. No injuries were reported, and both cars were driven from the scene.

  • Later on March 21, Ptlm. John Stilwell responded to the same intersection for another reported motor vehicle crash. As in the earlier incident, a vehicle stopped in the lane of traffic on N. Chester Rd. was hit by the car traveling behind it. Again, no injuries were reported, and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

  • On March 24, at 4:38 p.m., Sgt. William Thomas was dispatched to the area of S. Chester Rd. and Fairview Rd. for a motor vehicle crash. It was determined that one vehicle had pulled out of a parking lot, striking another vehicle on Fairview Rd. No injuries were reported; both vehicles sustained minor damage, but were driven from the scene.

Other Calls for Service

On March 24 at 11:50 a.m., Sgt. William Thomas was dispatched to check the SEPTA tracks between Swarthmore Ave. and N. Chester Rd., for subjects walking on the rail line. Although the area was vacant when checked, the Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. reminds residents that walking in the SEPTA track area is extremely dangerous. Persons who walk there are putting themselves at great risk, and such actions constitute a trespass violation. Subjects found on the tracks will be subject to a non-traffic citation of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.

Medical Emergencies

The Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. responded to nine medical emergencies during the week of March 18. Officers assisted responding medics and the Swarthmore ambulance for a variety of medical calls.

Service Alarms

The Police Dept. responded to eight alarm calls during the week of March 18. These calls ranged from false burglar alarms to fire alarms.
