Indivisible Swarthmore meeting

To the Editor:

The historic election of 2017 sent two Democrats to the Delaware County Council for the first time, and Democrats swept the county “row offices” — Register of Wills, Controller, and Sheriff. After decades of GOP control of county government, our newly elected officials have discovered no-bid contracts, the mismanagement of the state’s only private prison (George Hill Correctional Facility), and the potential risks that a natural gas liquids pipeline poses to our community’s safety, among many other issues. With another county election approaching in November 2019, Democrats are one county council seat away from a majority that can take action on these issues and move Delaware County forward.

On Wednesday, March 27, Indivisible Swarthmore: Moving the Needle will meet at Trinity Episcopal Church in Swarthmore to hear from Kevin Madden, member of County Council, and Mary Walk, Register of Wills, about what they have discovered in their first year-plus on the job. They will share with us the challenges they see ahead and the possibilities for better and more transparent county government.

Doors open at 7:30 for snacks and conversation; the program begins at 8:00. For more information or to join our email list, please go to www.indivisibleswarthmore.org.
